Grey Main third in national quiz competition

Grey Main School lit quiz team members Michael Lomax, left, Edith Hopkinson, Emily Speirs and Luke Baatjies were today still revelling in their third place finish at the national competition, in Wellington on Tuesday. The Greymouth team competed against 14 other schools from all over New Zealand in a test of literature both classic and contemporary. “It was tough. But once we hit the buzzer a few times we were fine,” Emily said. Teacher Allie Sullivan and librarian Allie Costello said they were proud of the achievement and encouraged more West Coast schools to attend the regional competition next year. The winning team, from Whakatane, will compete in the international final in Cornwall, England.
